Our Community
Nosara is home.
We are active participants in community organizations that strive to enhance the overall well-being of our region. We support these groups in accomplishing their strategic goals by fostering their long-term capacity through grants, outreach, mentoring opportunities, and small business loans. Our focus areas include promoting quality education, ensuring access to water, managing wastewater, fostering sustainable development, and nurturing a healthy natural ecosystem.
As part of our B Corp certification, we are committed to donating at least 2% of our gross operating revenue to local nonprofit groups each year.
Harmony Fund
The Harmony Fund awards annual grants to different local non-profit organizations and honors Hotel Harmony's commitment to community members who have taken action to address the area's challenges.
Our summary of 2024 grantees can be found at the links below. This year, we continued our focus on two critical strategic directions: access to water and quality education.
Historical fund distribution by category:
Since its inception in 2015, the Harmony Fund has been vital in maintaining a close relationship with our community, allowing us to find opportunities and generate partnerships that have transformed into profound changes for the well-being of Nosara and its residents. Since its founding, the Harmony Fund has granted more than $265,000 to local community organizations.

We are so fortunate to have this amazing first response volunteer organization in our town. Their work goes above and beyond fighting fires to include wildlife rescue, vehicle accident response, and offering educational programs. Harmony Projects provides monthly financial support for their operations.

The Ostional Wildlife Reserve includes the beaches of Ostional, Nosara and Guiones. It also extends inland along the estuaries of the rivers and mangrove swamps, and serves to protect the nesting habitat of sea turtles, as well as birds and other wildlife. For each booking sold at our hotels, we donate one dollar per person per night to a fund that supports the operations of the refuge.
Local Sourcing
Even though our location is relatively remote, there are ample opportunities to find much of what we need in our own region. We prioritize sourcing local products, and work closely with partners who share our commitment to environmentally friendly practices. Our ongoing collaborations with local farmers and fishermen forms a small-scale supply chain network that emphasizes working in harmony with the seasons, and strengthens our community’s economy and local food security. Additionally, shrinking the distance our food has to travel maximizes the freshness and flavor of our produce, while reducing our carbon footprint.
Creativity & Events
Supporting and sharing creative culture is one of our fundamental values. Through the Harmony Hotel's Artist in Residency program, we welcome artists, writers, filmmakers, philosophers, and other creative practitioners to pursue their work in our unique natural environment. Our aim is to bring the richness of global ideas to Nosara, creating opportunities for artists, guests and community members to come together in meaningful and enjoyable ways. We regularly host event nights that serve as platforms for sharing ideas and nurturing a sense of community and connection.
